First Aid
New Horizons Dive Centre First Aid courses are open to both divers and non-divers and are recognised qualifications, meeting the requirements for the Appointed Person in the work place.
We hope you'll never have to use the skills that you'll learn on this course, but will give you the confidence and ability to act if the situations should arise.
Emergency First Response Course
Emergency First Response is an innovative CPR/First Aid programme. Whether you are a diver or a non-diver, EFR prepares you to properly handle potentially life-threatening situations.
This comprehensive course is composed of two core modules which will be taught in tandem:
- Primary Care covers the essential skills of CPR enabling you to deal with life-threatening emergencies (including AED training).
- Secondary Care helps you assist those in need when Emergency Medical Services are either delayed or unavailable.
Each module will consist of a combination of knowledge development, skill development and realistic scenario practise to make sure that you have the understanding and confidence to use your skills. Before attending the training at New Horizons you will receive a training pack including a video, which you will study at home as part of your knowledge development. The rest of the programme is instructor led and completed over one day at New Horizons.
By completing both modules you'll feel more confident to give a helping hand when needed.
This course covers the CPR and First Aid prerequisites for the Rescue Diver course and meets the requirements for the Appointed Person in the work place.

Emergency First Reponse Refresher Course
First Aid skills need to be practised and kept up to date on a regular basis. In order to keep your certificate current, you need to review your manual and video on a regular basis and attend a skills review session at least every 24 months.

Care For Children (EFR) Course
The Emergency First Response Care for Children course is an innovative CPR, AED and First Aid training course that teaches participants how to provide emergency care for injured or ill children (ages one to eight) and infants less than one year old. Participants learn about the types of medical emergencies that children face, and how they differ from adult conditions. The curriculum also includes the importance of attending to basic emergency situations with children, the emotional aspects of caring for children, secondary care for children, and preventing common injuries and illnesses in children.
The course includes both primary care (CPR) and secondary care (first aid) skills. The primary care portion of the course prepares the rescuer to render aid to an infant or child with a life-threatening emergency such as choking or cardiac arrest. Secondary care focuses on developing secondary patient care skills and building the rescuer's confidence to render first aid to an infant or child in need when emergency medical services are either delayed or unavailable.
