Instructor Development

 

Assistant Instructor & Instructor Development Course

New Horizons PADI Instructor CandidatesOpen to all Divemasters or equivalent with at least 60 logged dives, this course focus’s on preparing candidates to function as PADI Assistant Instructors and/or Open Water Scuba Instructors. The PADI IDC provides individuals who already possess instructor level dive theory, role model watermanship and rescue skills with additional training that allows them to implement the PADI system in confined water, classroom and open water environments. The IDC also helps instructor candidates gain a complete understanding of PADI’s educational goals and philosophies. Ultimately the IDC prepares the candidate to take part in a PADI Instructor Examination (IE).

COURSE OPTIONS:

1. Assistant Instructor Course (AI):New Horizons 11th IDC
Open to PADI Divemasters or equivalent.

2. Instructor Development Course (IDC):
Open to PADI Divemasters or equivalent who may complete the entire IDC. After successful completion candidates may attend an Instructor Examination.

3. Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI):
Open to PADI Assistant Instructors or equivalent who may complete the second part of the IDC (OWSI). After successful completion candidates may attend an Instructor Examination.

MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR COURSE:

MATERIALS PROVIDED BY STUDENT:

  • Full SCUBA equipment (rental gear available at course package price)
  • Your own Logbook
  • Certification costs (enrolment as a professional member of PADI at the appropriate level)

LOCATIONS:

  • Knowledge Development - In our comfortable classroom at New Horizons
  • Pool Sessions - In local swimming pools (mainly Macclesfield, but we may use Wilmslow, Lymm or Sandbach)
  • Open Water - Capernwray or other local sites

SCHEDULE:

PREREQUISITES:

  • 18 years old at start of course
  • Be a certified diver for at least 6 months and logged at least 60 dives
  • Certified as PADI Divemaster or equivalent (if not a PADI Divemaster successfully complete a rescue skills assessment)
  • Hold a medical certificate of fitness to dive less than 12 months old
  • Submit proof of CPR and first aid training within the last 24 months

        OWSI course:

  • as above but must also be a certified PADI assistant instructor or equivalent

        Instructor Examination (IE):

  • To attend an IE, a instructor candidate must have at least 100 logged dives. IE fees to be paid directly to PADI

COSTS:

  • AI course - £349 plus required materials & PADI fees
  • OWSI course - £449 plus required aterials & PADI fees
  • Full IDC - £749 plus required materials & PADI fees
  • All site entry fees
  • Air fills

Staff Instructor Course

New Horizons Staff Instructor - Julie MorrisseyOpen to all renewed teaching status PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainers. The PADI IDC Staff Instructor Course is designed to provide PADI M.S.D.Ts with the additional training necessary to staff PADI Instructor Development programmes. This course builds upon the IDC Staff Instructor candidate’s experience and abilities as a dive educator while concentrating on developing evaluation and counselling skills. Through independent study, classroom sessions, guided evaluation training and an internship, IDC Staff Instructor candidates learn to teach the PADI Assistant Instructor course and assist with instructor development programmes.
