Barbolight or Greenforce?
06/03/2010
Buying your first ‘proper’ torch can be a difficult decision, especially when you realise the prices. So here’s a bit of advice if you’re thinking about taking the ‘big step’.
The two main torches which we sell at New Horizons are the Greenforce and the Barbolight U15, both of which are extremely good but also extremely different.
Greenforce
When purchasing the Greenforce torch you are not just buying a torch, you are buying a completely modular system, enabling you to purchase any of the Greenforce range then upgrade your torch by simply purchasing for example, an umbilical or head of your choice.
Advantages
- 6 hr burn time
- LED, HID or Halogen technology
- Depth rated to 350+ metres
- Full warranty, service, repairs and back up available from suppliers.
Disadvantages
- The only disadvantage which this torch has is the weight as a full system packed in its bag it weighs around 1.2 kg.
Barbolight
The Barbolight torch is an extremely compact, rugged spotlight. Designed by a Spanish cave diver who wanted the brightest and lightest torch possible which he could strap to his head with no umbilical. The main beam, offers accurate long distance reach and peripheral vision. With 90 minutes’ runtime, it features a low battery warning, and emergency flashes that can be seen from a distance of several kilometres. You can invest in an umbilical and canister which will double the 90 minute burn time however this then defeats the point of having no umbilical.
Advantages
- Only weighs 300 grams
- Completely made out of anodized aluminium
- Its one complete unit (nothing interchangeable)
- Full warranty, service, repairs and back up available from suppliers.
Disadvantages
- The only disadvantages which this torch has are the burn time and that you have to take the batteries out every time to recharge them otherwise it’s extremely easy to use.
