Shark Diving in South Africa

by Kathryn Oldham

A trip to South Africa
20/02/2010

Many thanks to Kathryn from New Horizons Dive Centre in Cheshire for sharing her group's experience of the dive centre's trip to South Africa with Regaldive!

"We arrived at Scuba Addicts in Durban for 6 days diving. Scuba Addicts is run by Shona and Craig. The lodge was simple but clean and comfortable. The organisation of Scuba Addicts was second to none. The staff were always efficient, professional but still very friendly.

The diving on Aliwal shoals was amazing and we certainly saw sharks as promised. The Raggies were lovely but the real treat was a dive with 50+ Oceanic Black Tips and the sightings of Tiger Sharks!

The hospitality was brilliant, there was always someone willing to drive us into town, to the nearest mall, or, in the evenings, to the superb restaurants organised for us. Overall, I do not think that they could have provided us with better service or a more enjoyable stay.

The Roundhouse at Gansbaai was stunning. The rooms were spacious and immaculate. Again organisation of transfers was brilliant. We went to Shark Diving Unlimited for our Great White Cage Diving experience. Another professional outfit, and it was a nice touch to be provided with breakfast despite an early start.

The whole experience was well run and everyone was given a good chance in the cage to get sightings of the sharks. Wetsuits were provided on the boat, as were waterproof jackets and lunch. The tour past Dyer Island was a great experience. Finally, back at the centre, we were provided with hot soup and some more snacks while having the opportunity to watch the video of the day’s trip.

The trip was one of the best I have been on, offering amazing food, hospitality, organisation and professionalism, all the while with friendly approachable staff and unbelievable experiences with the marine life."
