PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty

Excellent buoyancy control is what defines skilled scuba divers. You’ve seen them underwater; they glide effortlessly, use less air and ascend, descend or hover almost as if by thought. Complete the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course and you too can progress towards this level of Scuba Diving Yoda!

Become the diver everyone wants to emulate. Glide through the water, hover by what seems to be the power of thought, and use less air than everyone else by completing the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course.

After some self study using the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty manual you will complete two dives over a day with your PADI instructor.

With so many applications, you’ll get so much more from every dive. Gently interact with aquatic life and have a minimal effect on your surroundings every time you dive. The fun part of this course is giving your dive skills the polish you may not have thought possible.

This course will also count towards the prestigious PADI Master Scuba Diver rating and the first dive of this Specialty course may count towards the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Certification.

Knowledge Development

As part of the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Course, you’ll complete some Knowledge Development before the fun bits. This will be reviewed with your instructor before putting the theory into practice during two open water dives.

The theory side can be completed at you own pace before being reviewed. Currently only available as a physical manual, this can be collected from the NHDC Dive Centre.

Skills Practice

Buoyancy control is the most important skill for any diver to perfect. You will immediately feel more comfortable in the water and your air consumption will improve.

During the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy specialty your instructor will help you develop your key buoyancy skills. Over the course of a day, you’ll complete two open water dives with your NHDC PADI Instructor. During these dives you’ll learn about:

  • equipment configuration and streamlining to help improve your air consumption
  • correct weighting and weight positioning
  • advanced underwater control, finning techniques and breath control

During two open water dives you will have the opportunity to practice and ultimately master these skills. This is an essential course for all divers and in particular for anyone considering underwater photography or wreck diving.

We’ll provide everything you need. We pride ourselves on ensuring there are no hidden costs.

We will provide all the basic, as well as any specialised, equipment for diving while perfecting your buoyancy control. Comfort is everything in scuba diving, therefore if you already have your own equipment, we’d encourage you to bring it along to keep you warm and comfortable while becoming a scuba diving Yoda!

Knowledge Development can be completed at your own pace but will be reviewed with the NHDC team before certification.

Open Water dives are completed over a day at the weekend, usually a Saturday, with courses arranged on a regular basis.

New Horizons aims to be flexible with arranging courses to suit your schedule so if the scheduled dates are not convenient please give us a call to discuss suitable alternatives.

On all of our PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course options you will receive…

  • Coaching and on-going support from an experienced, passionate and professional PADI Instructor
  • 1 hours (minimum) Knowledge Review (with your NHDC PADI Instructor)
  • 1.5 hours (minimum) Skills Development (open water dives)
  • FREE rental of all required equipment (including, but not limited to: cylinders & air fills, dive computer, fins, mask, snorkel, drysuit & undersuit, any specialist equipment [e.g. training weights])
  • Course materials
  • PADI Certification

Our dives are usually completed in UK water, therefore we recommend you use a drysuit and undersuit for greater comfort. If you have no previous drysuit experience, we will arrange a pool based orientation session for an additional £40 before your weekend in Open Water so you are fully prepared and confident to jump in.

Please note, our course fees covers equipment rental, pool entry fees, PADI Certification fees etc, but do not cover entry fees to open water dive sites. These vary according to location; please ask for further details.
